Background
Cotton is Uzbekistan’s main profit crop, with an annual production of approximately 1 million ton of fiber, which accounts for 4–5% of world production; the country is the 8th largest producer and the 11th largest exporter (10% of world exports) of cotton.
As a matter of fact, the nickname for cotton in Uzbekistan is “white gold”.
An important client in the country with one of Amiad’s filtration systems
previously installed in one of their reservoirs needed a new system for another reservoir. Based on the easy maintenance and positive results of the first system, the customer again approached our local distributor – Irri-altal – for an additional filtration solution from Amiad; this time a 5 x 6” Sigma Pro filters battery.
Challenge
It was crucial for the drip irrigation system to be well protected, even though no data was available regarding the water quality of the new reservoir, so it was clear that the new filtration system would need to successfully cope with the heavy load of silt present in the water.
The requirements for the new systems were:
• Flow: 600 m3/h
• Operating pressure: 4 bar
• Filtration degree: 130 micron
Solution
We supplied a brand new 5 x 6” Sigma Pro filters battery, all installed with one controller for all as well one common manifold for each inlet, outlet, and drain connections.
This solution provided a small footprint with low energy consumption; and in comparison to the media filters offered by competitors, a significant saving in water during the automatic flushing process.
Results
The customer is very satisfied with the filtration system and with Irri-altal’s recommendation to choose Amiad’s solutions and expertise for both reservoirs.
