Background

Confronted with polluted water from five wells, the customer installed an RO membrane system to meet drinking water standards. However, the system quickly proved unsustainable: cartridges clogged within days, requiring weekly replacements, and sand damage to the costly RO membranes led to a complete system shutdown.
These issues drove up operational and maintenance costs, jeopardizing the project’s viability.
Seeking a reliable and cost-effective alternative, the customer turned to Amiad.

Challenge

The existing 10-micron screen filter failed to protect the cartridges and RO membranes from sand damage. As a result, the client sought a solution from Amiad to maintain cartridge performance and safeguard the RO membranes – the system’s most critical and costly components.
Due to the lack of regular supervision – caused by the treatment site’s remote and difficult-to-access location – it was not evident that the system was malfunctioning until the RO membranes became completely clogged with sand. This failure necessitated their replacement, resulting in a significant expense.

Solution

Upon arriving at the site, Amiad conducted in-depth water quality testing to identify the root cause of the issue. This analysis was essential for designing a solution tailored to the site’s unique challenges.
Based on the test results and a detailed consultation with the client, Amiad installed eight 4” Spin Klin™ Galaxy disc filters (external source, 10 micron) to improve filtration and ensure reliable system performance.

Results

Post-installation, both Amiad and the client continued to monitor the disc filters and cartridges to maintain consistent operation.
Since 2023, the system has performed reliably, meeting the client’s expectations.
The solution has significantly reduced costs associated with cartridge and membrane replacements, demonstrating its long-term value and effectiveness.
